Successful operation of the School Meal Service Pilot Project in 2009

  • In 2009, the SEOUL AGRO-FISHERIES & FOOD CORPORATION started a support project for school meals with excellent agricultural and livestock products for 25 demonstration schools for the “rest easy about food” project of Seoul City. For support project for school meals with excellent agricultural and livestock products, Seoul City supported the difference between purchasing Eco-friendly agricultural and livestock products and general ones, in order to supply good food at reasonable prices to our children, the next generation.
  • Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation set up a school meal service support center in Garak Market and devoted itself to supplying safe and fresh food. In sum, it supplied a total 747 tons of food in 2009 (612 tons of agricultural products, 135 tons of livestock products), and amongst this Eco-friendly products accounted for 73 % and premium livestock 97%. In two satisfaction surveys, satisfaction for food quality recorded 92 points, satisfaction for meal service 91 points, and satisfaction of students and parents 93 points.

Implementation of a new model for School Meal Service through the Seoul Eco-Friendly Distribution Center in 2010

  • Constructed Gangseo 1 and 2 Centers in the Gangseo Agricultural Wholesale Market in Gangseo-gu to supply premium food to schools in 2010. Certified for eco-friendly architecture, the Seoul Eco-Friendly Distribution Center is an agricultural distribution facility equipped with gathering and shipping facilities, a low temperature warehouse, safety testing room, training room, etc. on land measuring 6,120 ㎡.
  • In 2014, the Garak Center was additionally constructed in Garak Market in Garak-dong, Songpa-gu for efficient logistics. It has been supplying food more efficiently to schools in eastern Seoul, equipped with picking areas, a low temperature warehouse, storage rooms, an examination room, safety testing room, etc. on land measuring 5,430 ㎡.
  • The SEOUL AGRO-FISHERIES & FOOD CORPORATION has made transactions transparent and reduced costs by directly supplying agricultural products from producers to schools through the center.
  • Also, it guarantees the freshness and safety of food by establishing an optimized logistics information system. All the food that enters the center must go through a scientific safety test and thorough quality control before being supplied to schools. Early every morning, the quality and freshness of food are tested, and every delivery vehicle has GPS in it, so it is possible to check the position of the vehicle, temperature, and delivery status in real-time. The GC/MSD equipment in the safety testing room in the center can closely inspect pesticide residue for safety tests of agricultural products.
  • Seoul Eco-Friendly Distribution Center supplied premium agricultural and livestock products to 270 elementary schools in Seoul in 2010 and supplied premium agricultural and livestock products to 588 schools in 2011, 784 in 2012, 867 in 2013, 358 in 2014, 723 in 2015, 784 in 2016, 832 in 2017, and 876 in 2018.

It will produce a mid-term and long-term development plan for school meal service and establish a safe school meal service system with high quality.
